Improving our State Government
REDUCING TAXES:
* 2007 finished with $350 Million Surplus (without tax increases levied) * "Budget Cutting" resulted in a budget that is $3/4 Billion MORE than 2007 * Prison System as efficient as Indiana would cut another $1/2 Billion * Reform to Legislative Compensation would lead to Millions more that could be saved * We're finding the waste that Lansing was "unable" to find
REDUCING REGULATIONS:
-- Allows more "friendly" State for Business -- More Business means more jobs -- More Jobs means more people have a chance for a better life
-- Modifying homes for Seniors * Help Seniors stay independent and in their own homes * Creates more work for Contractors -- Greater Assistance for Returning Veterans and their Families * Support Groups and Assistance provided * More care AFTER they return home is LONG OVERDUE -- Robotics to take care of tedious work in hospitals, etc. * Allows Nurses, Doctors, Skilled Staff to take care of other matters and spend more time tending to the patients needs
REFORMING LEGISLATURE:
KEEP FULL-TIME (For Now) WE are in CRISIS Need more than a "part-time" effort to take care of Jobs, Health Care, Education, Protecting Citizens at Risk and Government Reform REMOVE LIFE TIME BENEFITS DEADLINES & PENALTIES Hold Accountable by setting deadlines for work to be done if not; they personally pay a penalty for each day late Helps assure Focus on Challenges that need to be overcome and done in timely manner PREVENT RAISES when "only option" is to Raise & Create Taxes;
CRIMINAL SYSTEM REFORM
-- Restitution + instead of incarceration that costs US $32,000+ (Victim protected and reimbursed, criminal pays price for crime) -- Prisoners would be employed at Minimum Wage and would then pay for: * their housing cost * their utility cost * their housing cost * their clothing cost * their health care cost (When released, prisoner is used to working every day and paying bills; better prepared for life) (money that WE don't spend, can be spent in other areas or taxes reduced) This type of program when tried in varying forms results in just 10% of convicts returning to prison within 2 years (compared to 90% with our present system)
-- Debt has been paid -- Save money on keep and tracking "old" records and "former" prisoners -- Allows prisoners to have a better chance at returning to a "normal" life
