Improving our Schools
 | Improving Parents' ability to monitor their child's education and working
with the schools to assure the best possible education for today's youth! |
 | Creating an atmosphere that is conducive to learning (Structure,
Discipline, Expectations, etc.) |
 | Communities sharing ideas and supporting their schools to provide a better
future for today's students |
 | Students performing in-school, matinee performances of plays, concerts,
etc., for Sr. Citizens that are on a fixed income |
 | Newspapers focusing on Education & Arts as much as they do Athletics
(this new section would also create JOBS!)
-- Education Section of the Newspaper that features what students are learning,
updates on achievements, Science Fair articles, logs from field trips and what
students learned
-- Businesses that say they value education; putting their advertising in this
portion of the paper to keep it going and show its importance
** Special Thanks to the County Press & LA View for their recent
INCREASED emphasis on Education and Academics. During the week of 3/9 the
two papers had over a dozen articles about what is happening in Lapeer
County. By everyone working together, we can turn Michigan around
and take everyone through the "Gateway to a Better Life"

 | Expand use and access to Michigan Virtual University that will allow
students to take:
-- Remedial Classes at their own pace
-- Wider selection of Foreign Language
-- Additional Math and Science Courses
-- More technology classes (web design, robotics, etc.)
-- Greater array of Social Studies & History (expanding their understanding
and wisdom for addressing societies problems)

Improving our Colleges
 | Limit rate of Tuition/Housing to limit of inflation |
 | Encourage Businesses to help fund "Further Education" of
Employees |
 | Help Counselors focus on Degrees that are Marketable and have ample job
opportunities |
 | Focus on Community Colleges and tie in with "on-line" to: |
* Expand Course Offerings
* Improve Quality of Instruction
* Keep "housing costs" down to enable greater access
 | Use "Colleges" and "Universities" that we fund to
study and find solutions to the challenges that Michigan is facing |
 | Pursue Tie-ins with Businesses where students: |
* Receive financial assistance
* Guaranteed job
* Student Loan reduction program is stay in Michigan and in field for 5
years
Cutting Costs
 | Work more with internet "campuses" |
 | Government provide stable funding and guidance to assure that our Schools,
Colleges and Universities are equipping youth with the skills they will need
to compete in a global marketplace |
 | Encouraging schools to share methods, curriculum that are working, so that
ALL students can benefit from the best educators! |
 | Find ways to control costs of College & University educations that
have grown well above inflation rates in recent years |
Training for New Jobs
 | Businesses providing input on the qualities that schools can develop in
the workers of tomorrow |
 | Schools providing a curriculum that will prepare students for the jobs of
today and the future; not the jobs of the past |
